The La Junta Post Office was built in 1915 and designed by architect Oscar Wenderoth in a Spanish Colonial Style in stucco brick with two floors and a basement. Mr. Swanson from Chicago, Illinois was the building contractor and he brought in G.A. Dahlgren for superintendent of the project. Dahlgren remained in La Junta for a time building many homes and businesses. At the time of its opening, M.R. McCauley worked as the Postmaster there. The post office was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and remains in use to this day after several remodelings of the interior.
