A black and white photo postcard showing the Calumet & Arizona Hospital in Bakerville, circa 1920, looking north. There is a water tank behind the hospital. It has been the Hillcrest Apartments since the 1940s. The postcard is unused, and the publisher is unknown. Al Ring Collection.
The Calumet & Arizona Hospital was established between Bisbee and the Johnson Addition in a building that eventually served as a Mexican mission. In 1917, Calumet & Arizona built a large hospital in Warren and the construction was overseen by Nelson C. Bledsoe who worked as a surgeon. The service the hospital provided to C&A miners and their families was top notch. Among its doctors were C.H. Edmondsen and Dr. Darragh. In the 1940’s the former hospital turned into the Hillcrest Apartments.
