A colorized postcard of the Warren ballpark. The front caption at the bottom left reads: “Bird's Eye View of Warren, Ariz”. The back caption reads: “Located at the head of the valley that broadens out the south, and commanding an unsurpassed view of mountain and distant valley extending into Mexico lies Warren, the residential suburb of Bisbee. The general Offices of the Calumet and Arizona Mining CO. are located in Warren, in the large 2 story building in the center.” The postcard is unused and was published Curt Teich America Art, Chicago, Illinois. Mary Nell Supanich collection.
The Warren Ballpark was built by the Phelps Dodge company in 1909 to provide recreation for miners and their families. It was part of their efforts to attract stable family men to work in their mines. Friends of the Warren Ballpark hold vintage baseball tournaments to raise money to upkeep the park. In the tournament they keep to the older rules of baseball along with using a lemon peel ball and heavier wooden bats. To this day the Warren Ball Park houses games for Bisbee High School Baseball and for the semiprofessional team the Bisbee Copper Kings. The Warren Ballpark remains as one of the oldest continually operating ballparks in the United States.
