Willcox, Arizona was founded in 1880 and incorporated in 1915 and is located in the Sulphur Springs and is near the Chiricahua and Pinaleno Mountains.. The town began as a stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad; it was originally named Maley but was renamed Willcox in honor of General Orlando B. Willcox after he visited the town. The climate is ideal for growing grapes for wine which remains one of the primary industries outside of agriculture and tourism.
