Approached from Tucson via U.S. Highway 80, State 83, 82 and 92. Rich in the history of the Old West, the fort was established in 1877 to give protection to settlers in southeastern Arizona from the Apache Indians. Soldiers garrisoned here fought such notables as Geronimo and Pancho Villa.
