A sepia toned, black and white postcard of the Calumet & Arizona Hospital in Bakersville, looking south. The front caption on the top left reads: “Calumet & Arizona Hospital. Bisbee, Ariz.”. The postcard is unused and was published by the Albertype Company, Brooklyn, New York. Nick Pavlovich Collection.
The Calumet & Arizona Hospital was established between Bisbee and the Johnson Addition in a building that eventually served as a Mexican mission. In 1917, Calumet & Arizona built a large hospital in Warren and the construction was overseen by Nelson C. Bledsoe who worked as a surgeon. The service the hospital provided to C&A miners and their families was top notch. Among its doctors were C.H. Edmondsen and Dr. Darragh. In the 1940’s the former hospital turned into the Hillcrest Apartments.
