Plutarco Elias Calles was born on September 25th , 1877 to Maria Jesus Campuzano Noriega and Plutarco Elias Lucero. He was born to a prominent family that lost property to the Cananea Copper Company. Calles worked as a police commissioner and became a general by 1915, leading a Constitutional army in Sonora. His army expelled the Conventional faction in Sonora and became the governor . He promoted the growth of the economy, development of infrastructure, and the abolition of alcohol. He worked under President Venustiano Carranza as the Secretary of Industry, Commerce, and Labor in 1919. . Calles joined the revolutionary Generals Huerta and Obregon in 1920 to overthrow Carranza, the then served as the Minister of War and the Secretary of the Interior . He supported the organized labor the Regional Confederation of Mexican workers and the radical agrarians. Calles was elected and served as president of Mexico from 1924-1928, his presidency brought a more peaceful era after the Mexican Revolution. He later married Natalia Chacon and had twelve children together. Plutarco Elias Calles passed away at the age of 68 on October 19th, 1945.
