A color postcard of Hermit Trail at the Grand Canyon with individuals shown riding on donkeys. The front caption on the bottom reads: “Along the Cliffs on Hermit Trail, Grand Canyon, Arizona”. The back caption on the top left reads: “Hermit Trail, the new way to the heart of the Canyon, is about nine miles west of El Tovar. It is a trail of easy grades and long zig zags, and four feet wide. Diverging from it on the plateau is the old Tonto Trail, connecting with Bright Angel, Grand View and other Canyon trails to the river.” The postcard was postmarked Grand Canyon Ariz. June 16, 1917 8 PM and was sent to Miss Lucy Caretto Bisbee Ariz Box 105. The message on the back in ink reads: “Here at last! Scenery is certainly wonderful and beyond my power to describe. Its beauty can certainly never be exaggerated. We leave tomorrow afternoon for Flagstaff to spend Sun and Mon. without Sister there. Expect to be home Friday evening. Love to Maggie when you write as I have lost her address and cannot write from here. Love to all.” The postcard was sent with a green one cent George Washington stamp and was published by Fred Harvey and the Detroit Publishing Company as part of the Phostint series.
